I am in the midst of bringing a group of stand alone desktops into our Windows 2000 server network. I want to keep the profile of each user. I know I can do that through the advanced tab on the system. My problem is that each time I log on to this computer as the networked user a new profile gets generated. I can see userx, userx.who-gb and userx.who-gb.000 where who-gb is our domain. Nothing is staying in the user documents and settings, even when I make a change and reboot the computer. Right now the first 2 profiles have absolutely nothing in them. I am also getting the message after I select the profile to copy and then go to permitted to change and select the user, i get the message ‘failed to set security on the destination profile. error access is denied.’ When I do a check name it does come up correct.
This is the first time I have had to bring a computer into the network where I wanted to recover the user preferences. Can anyone give me some assistance? And yes, I am logged on as either administrator or a user with admiin rights. I’ve tried it using several logons. And not the user being copied from or to.
These computers were not set up by me originally. We are absorbing a small agency into ours and they have all been set up differently, probably by several different people.
