Getting started with fractional T1

I am not a network person, yet I have been asked to give advice to a good friend who knows less about it than I. I need guidance.

The friend is a doctor who needs to set up a high speed internet access from her new office. Because of the location of the office the best deal she came up with is a fractional T1 which she will also use for voice communication.

OK, the physical line is about to be installed and terminiated at her office. Now what? Can someone point me at some sites that can give me some basic information on the equipment and software she will need? I want to educate myself on the fundamentals.
