global catalog servers

i have 2 servers with windows 2003 before we have 1 dc now i want to remove this server from network so i create a VM on 2nd server and attached it to the existing domain(which was the first one) if i create my new VM server as a global catalog will it run like same as 1st server(without any problems)or i will appreciate if some one suggest me things to keep in mind in this process.
