Half duplexing Intel Network Cards

How do you get Intel Pro 100+ cards to accept half duplex? At my place of employment we are trying to get these cards to go to half duplex, but everytime we do select half duplex upon rebooting the system tells us that the card settings are wrong and will not connect to the network? Any clue as to what we are doing wrong?
