hard drive not recognized

I’m running nt server with service pack 6 on my removable HD. one day, the hd doesnt boot up. it displays an error that says “hard disk failure” or something like that. its not even detected by my computer in the cmos (detect hd). what is the problem?
corrupt mbr?if so, how do i fix?
