harddrive

have a hardrive MAXTOR UDA 133 has a slight noise on boot up,been to maxtor for there power check diagnostic program, followed all the instructions on how to get it to boot and work,it will boot into the logo screen the thats all,i have been on to maxtor and they say it should work,I am lost now on how it should, the same happen if i try to run the PCCHECK program as well,please forgive the simplicity of ? as new to pc’s
