HD Error, deleted a profile, Desktop recovery possible?

A HD error, or a virus deleted my active profile from Documents and Settings, and now my HD will not boot at all, I will need to reinstall XP from the beginning, but I need to save some of the files that were on my desktop. I can access my HD only from Helix bootable CD, and I can see almost every file. However, my saved files were on the desktop which would put it under documents and settings. The Admin file doesnt have anything in it, as I used a secondary profile. Is there anyway to recover this information?
