hdd password recovery

can anyone help me.
my acer laptop was damaged so i removed hdd to use in my toshiba laptop but it comes up needing the password but for the life of me i cannot remember it.
is there anyway to bypass this to enable me to format and use it in my usb enclosure as a spare storage hdd.
