Heart-wreniching is driving me crazy!

It used to be my fellow Therapist saying “orientATED” ad nauseum. Now I am hearing – and seeing in print the term “heart-wrenching” I know this to be incorrect, however, it is understandable that people are simply extrapolating “GUT-wrenching” and using it instead of HEART-RENDING (the correct term)

As in to tear the heart or rend.

Am I going crazy or just being correct?

Anyone?
