help design strange home network

How would I add a router to our home network..?..we start it from a laptop with that sprint internet access-and have a 2 machine network we want to add wireless output to-
Anyone have a clue….is there a router that would accept our C5 patch cord connection and give us wireless output and patch cord output..?
I picked up a netgear for cable/dsl thinking it would configure, but dosen’t recognize the signal from our c5 patch.
