Help Desk Morale

I’m having issues with my team. We are down two people which forces the team to modify their schedules to cover the shifts. My team has no motivation and really our company doesn’t offer much for it. How can I increase my teams morale? My boss is old school – you should be lucky to have a job type. I’m not sure what steps I can take to make things better. We are overwhelmed with work and tend to support areas where support is lacking. Completely unfair to my team, but that’s just the way it is. Any suggestions would be great.
