Help! Exchange Server

We have just installed server 2003 for a small 6 person office and it was a little beyond what I was capable of. Now we need to set up a global mail service and have been given the go ahead to purchase exchange. I’ve only support exchanged, never set it up. Do I need to get anything else but the software? What tools or books are REALLY needed to install this?
