HELP-Linksys Router/Montorola Surfboard Modem

I just got Comcast Internet at our lake cottage and they said they wouldn’t hook up my router. I started hooking it up on my laptop for a wireless connection. I got everything set up and it didn’t work, but I get a connection directly through the router. I have reset things 2 times. I thought it might have something to do with a Domain Name, at my house, I have something imput on that sport {192.168.1.1 on the router}.
