Help with University Project – Small Lan

by waldok . Updated 17 years, 2 months ago

Looking for some advice – panicing as running out of time. Left this to the last min !

For a project at Uni:

To design a small network.
The network will consist of about 50 PCs, spread over 5 or 6 departments.
Iv created a domain, what im struggling with is what cisco routers/switches to use? how many servers to use?
Iv chosen cisco as we are currently learning the commands for this – so the configuring shouldnt be a problem. Im also using the IP range 192.168.240.0 – 255. Using static addresses for servers and dhcp for end user pcs.

I decided on using the following servers:
1. DC/DNS/DHCP
2. MAIL SERVER
3. WEB SERVER
4. APPLICATION/DISTRIBUTION
5. FILE SERVER/SHARES

Im unsure about how many backup servers to use and if any of the above servers can be combined – as it is quite a small project – so would have to justify cost.

Anyone able to offer assistance or know of any links to examples or resources.

Thanks
