home network equipment?

I’m new to networking computers together..so can someone tell me exactly what Hardware I need to network 3 computers i have at home together? i’m talking strictly non-wireless networks. I would like to file-share, share printer AND share my cable modem access to all 3 computers. I’ve heard i need a hub, and a router? i know i need nic’s on all 3 machines. am i missing anything else?
