Home networking issues

by chronosx64 . Updated 18 years, 2 months ago

I have a home network that worked perfectly. Nice and tidy. Until one day my father and I decided it would be great to run a network cable between the houses. A little work later and we had everything up and running. Here’s the thing, I’m now leaching off his internet connection. I have a HTPC hooked up to my TV and it works fine if I use the nic cable out of the wall. If I use a switch right before it I get no connection at all. I have tried with several switches and nothing seems to work.
I’ll try to show in a diagram:
DSL Modem (acting as DHCP server)

Wireless Router , Wireless Router
/
Long NIC Cable to my house.
/
Switch in basement.
/\
/ \
Switch in Study. , Two Computers.
/\

Computer , Wireless Router for HTPC ect

Hopefully that is still legible after I post this. The DHCP servers are off in all the switches past the DSL modem. I don’t know if it helps but all routers and switches are Linksys. Any help would be greatly appreciated. And thanks in advance.
