Hello everyone,
This is my first post on this website! I hope the first of many…
Here’s a quick summary of my situation…
I am a self-taught web developer. I have been working hard for the past year and a half, putting together multiple projects as I studied Javascript, React, HTML and advanced CSS in-depth. I was never good with grades in my school years but for the first time I can say that I am proud of how far I have come with studying this particular subject – Web Development. I have a lot of passion for coding as a web developer.
Now I find myself in a position where I am applying for job roles for the first time. I have put together a portfolio website which demonstrate my ReactJS and Javascript skills – which I feel are definately strong enough to contribute towards a Front End Web Developer role.
What I am finding however, is that a lot of the companies where I live (London, United Kingdom) use content management systems such as WordPress. I had no idea what WordPress was until I looked into it. It kind of demoralised me a little, having put so much effort into studying and building websites through hand-coding, to know that this sort of thing exists.
However, my passion for coding as a web developer stands strong.
My questions is, what can I show in my websites which people using WordPress can not do? Someone told me to learn WordPress but I dont really want to, I love learning to code and I find that its more challenging but at the same time more rewarding.
Please can you guys advise me on this. I would greatly appreciate your feedback.
Thanks a lot.
