How can I recover or reset the administrative password on a server?

I recently took over support for a small business (4 workstations and a server running windows server 2003). The previous tech changed the administrative password on the server and 2 workstations. The owner contacted the previous tech and was given a password but it does not work. Is there a way to reset the password so that I am able to access the system for updates etc.?
