how can i remove window 2000 server from drive c while keeping windows xp

hy ,i have two operating systems i.e. windows 2000 server in hard drive c and xp in drive d.now i want to remove window 2000 as i think i dont need it anymore but whenever i tried to format the drive it says could not format.what should i do now to uninstall 2000? kindly help!
