How did the personal computer change the world?

Hello, I am writing an essay for a scholarship submission and i need ideas. Basically the prompt is asking what I think is the most important invention in the past 50 years. So of course me being a computer geek, I choose the personal computer. I assume that the most important invention has to be able to change the way people live, for the better. It cannot just help the rich people or just the poor people, it has to help everyone. So, how exactly has the personal computer changed the world?
