HOW DO I CONNECT MY WINDOWS 2000 SERVER TO THE INTERNET

I build a new windows 2000 server, install the DHCP on the server range 10.80.130.1 to 10.80.130.254 and a mask of 255.255.254.0
When I connect the server directly to the internet router (straight through cable) I connect to the internet.
If I connect to the switch, which is also connected to the internet router, I do not get an internet connection.
any help???
