how do i go about writing automation strategy for my QA Department?

We have manual testing being done and wanted to advise the use of automation. Now that automation initiative is approved, i need to write automation strategy however i have not written any strategy before i need some pointers as below
1. how do i start
2. what all information should i include
3. what are effective ways of writing strategy..
