How do I reseat my power on button to engage power?

I pushed too hard on the button and now it won’t engage. This happened before and I THINK I popped off the front button cover. Can’t seem to get it off. So I took off side panel, pushed power piece forward and now the button works. But it won’t stay “in place” to reliably engage as it should. Compaq Presario SR1750NX Thanks.
