How do I set up Groupwise so 3rd party apps can send/receive mail?

I’m a Microsoft guy stuck in a Novell world. It’s not pretty.

We just purchased iPhone’s for our CEO and VP’s and I’m charged with getting email to those devices. Because this is our first foray into supporting mobile mail (our only previous experience was using BB Server), I have nothing to follow to get this done.

Can anyone help me with at least an idea how to accomplish this? I found in the GWIA where to enable SMTP and POP3 but I don’t really know what to do from there.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Sorry to be desperate!
