How do I setup BIND9 on a Linux VM?

I am trying to setup a DNS Server on an Ubuntu Linux vm. I have tried going through a few tutorials online but I must be missing something because its to no avail. If someone could either write up or link em to a more explicit tutorial. Or if you could simply explain the different configuration steps required and possibly some of the hang ups.
