How do I turn off Mail Server in SBS 2003 or fix DNS name server conflict?

Hello,
We have been running SBS 2003 for 3 years now without any major issues. Mailboxes were initially set up but mail never worked as it was supposed and we were using an outside ISP to handle our mail anyway. Outlook was configured to access the server mailbox, used cached mail but we never sent or received mail using our tsmith@example.org (not our real name). Now we have gmail as our mail server so we can use example.org as our extension. but it is (example.org) also our server’s name. Mega conflict’s! We have a website and gmail and server that are all conflicting. The closest anyone can suggest is to change the name server (not easily done for a 10 hours a week employee) or below are recommendations from our webmaster but we have no idea how to change/fix the conflict.
“The error messages indicate it is a DNS conflict/error. I am pretty sure that the error is at the domain name level. For mail we are using the domain name example.org. We are using that same name for your internal server which is also an internal mail server. So when other servers are trying to send email to example.org, the DNS on the domain name record tells the sending server what the receiving server is so the email can be delivered. Since there are two definitions for the same name of example.org, the email gets lost since it doesn’t know which DNS record is the correct one. So it doesn’t matter what the addresses for the individuals are. The problem is at the domain name level. It seems like perhaps most sending servers aren’t confused because they are looking at the records I have set up as probably because it is the traditional type of configuration for the hosting etc. However Microsoft Exhange Servers in particular seem to be having the issues and I am guessing that is because they are configured to pay attention to other Microsoft Exchange Server configurations which is where your settings on the internal server are creating the conflict.”
Any help would be appreciated. I am more than happy to help clarify this question too. Might have gotten a bit carried away.
