We are installing a new W2K network with the following characteristics:
– 25-30 max. users (concurrent)
– SQL Server – mid-to-large DB
– Exchange Server2K
– Small intranet
– rack-mounted (APC NetShelter)
– limited remote access
(answers worth 100+ points each)
1. How many physical servers should I get? Have a one-time-only shot at the hardware so want to get what I reasonably need.
I assume a seperate computer for SQL makes sense, but is there a MAJOR advantage in seperating file/print and Exchange?
2. Would dual processors (733MHz min) be most cost effective for the file/Exchange server?
3. How about storage? Is it worth the money to have the hard drives in an external array? Not concerned with RAID in that as muchas 24+48 hours downtime would be painful but not a catastrophy, given daily, RELIABLE backups.
Any other tips concerning this configuration, including links to HELPFUL sites, would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
