How to avoid/disarm Windows Live Essentials

I don’t want the Microsoft Octopus managing my life. As an amateur it was an exhausting process to suppress the earlier version. So far I have avoided downloading the latest monster.Is there an easy way to disengage the whole package. I am happy with G Mail, Windows mail and Picasa
