How To check Winword file for validity

I have a Winword file that cannot be printed. The printing job stacks in queue forever while task manager shows that Winword is working hard.
Being “saved as”, that file increases in size, from 1 965 056 bytes to 1 969 152 bytes.
Checking for spyware doesn’t show any malware being present.
Any help?
