LaserJet macbook no software no opt out

by Janie M . Updated 15 minutes ago

This is my macbook pro. I am a senior citizen. I set it up with my user and other admin user to prevent me messing it up again like online guides say.

I want to add a printer but i will neither install a driver nor silly hp software. That stops data collection. No opt out farce.

Jet Direct is almost as old as i am. This printer speaks ipp lpd wssomething airprint jetdirect and others. Listed on printer webpage.

I am able to use wifidirect to print from my iphone.

I can login to printer web on wifidirect using info from the status print out paper.

I changed the bonjour name to lazyprinter.

Connected to an offline router printer collects its dhcp reserved ipv4 192.168.20.130  .  Laptop connects with random address. I really don’t need the printer being chatty with the internet. Another question I’ll get help with firewall rules i barely understand

Macbook add printer sees bonjure name

Add printer jetdirect (port 9100)

Suggests software prompts for admin user

Oh no you don’t. We’re not installing anything. Printer speaks PostScript and PCL.

Select generic ps. Add printer

Printer status can see “ink” level

Nothing prints

I don’t know what to do next. The family is 🤷
