how to config multiple tcp/ip protocols

I have a peer to peer network,10 PCs running win98/win2kpro, have a cable modem and router with TCP/IP configured to obtain an IP address automatically to enable all PCs to access the internet, NETBEUI is currently handling my LAN.
I want to set up a WIN2K server (file server)
WHAT DO I NEED TO DO??? INSTALL 2 NETWORK CARDS ON EACH PC?? CAN I ADD ANOTHER TCP/IP PROTOCOL BOUND TO THE SAME NIC??? HOW???
AM I GAINING ANY PERFORMANCE BY GOING TO A “SERVER MODEL”?? PLEASE HELP!!!
