how to create image of the operating system

hi:
can sombody tell me how to create image of the drive where my operating system reside and the image should be on bootable cd or cds and if i want to recover my system in the case of failure (i.e for example C drive where my operating system and other programs exist) i can recover it from bootable cd or cds please help me
