How to do windows update for ghost images

Hi
I have created ghost images sometime ago with Symantec Ghost Solution Suite. Because windows always come up with new patches, each time i image a laptop, the windows updates takes very long. So is there a way to do windows update on the ghost image instead of creating an entire image or another method to increase efficiency.
