I have a Win2003 Server running AD, DHCP, and DNS. I have the DHCP/DNS configuration set to update DNS for everything–all clients.
I have a WinXP client in WORKGROUP. It gets a DHCP assignment from the server, but the DNS forward lookup zone never gets updated to include the PC. Therefore, I can not do any name resolution from the Server back to the client. ‘nslookup winxpclient’ does not resolve.
In my DHCP config I have the domain suffix of the domain controller, and the WinXP client gets the suffix when it gets its IP address.
If I join the WinXP client to the domain, it all works fine. But, I can’t have the clients in the domain, so that’s not a workable solution.
all help is greatly appreciated.
