How to set up IPv6 Static IP

I’ve recently moved away to uni, and using their network as I’m in halls. Currently I can only do things like searching the net or MSN. Now I can open ports so I can do other things, but even after opening the right ports still can’t do anything else. It’s not a firewall issue as I’ve tried disabling it and still nothing. I don’t currently have a static IP address and for some reason they are using IPv6 protocol which I have no idea how to set up. Any help would be much appriciated.
