How to stress test the Lan?

by dennis . Updated 25 years, 1 month ago

My manager wants a stress test performed on the Lan.
It is 10megabit shared. We have 20 buildings & trailers connected with multi-mode fiber and a 24 port Hub in each. We use Novell routers on our servers. We have some cat3 and cat5 buildings. Thefiber backbone pair only goes between servers & all they do is backup at night so it stays pretty quiet. There is a different fiber pair that all the plant traffic goes on between buildings. The plant fiber runs are upto 1/2 mile long. We have 300 PC’s and a 12 servers.
I know we can OTDR stress & certify each pair of fiber @ $70 per hour. I know we can copy a big file accross the lan and figure the throughput, I did this & got 6.5 to 7 megabit. Would that be good enough?
Please give me somesuggestions and if you have a ballpark price would be fantastic, and is there any big companys that are good at doing this type of work?

Thanks, Dennis
