HP All in one comes up dark

My Mother has an HP Pavilion 23 running an AMD processor. It’s running win10. When the computer comes on, most of the time it comes on with the screen so dim I can barely make out what’s on it. I also noticed there is no brightness control in the settings for Windows anywhere. It’s really annoying. I figure there may be a piece of HP proprietary software somewhere messing it up but I can’t find it. I updated the video driver but that didn’t help. I just can’t figure this one out.
