HP OmniBook scroll Microsoft mouse

A user I support has lost the scroll functionality of the Microsoft mouse that they have plugged into the docking station of their laptop. They are running Windows 2000 Professional on their laptop, which is an Omnibook 6000.
How do I get this scroll functionality back?
