We have an HP 952C Deskjet printer. It’s been a work horse and given us good service. Yesterday I was printing a PDF and the print quality went down hill. I changed the black cartridge and it helped but will I was changing it I noticed that it needed cleaning badly. So I cleaned it up using H2O and a rag. I left it to dry overnite and this morning when I fired it up everything seemed to work Except… Now the printer thinks it’s a 970 instead of a 952C. When it prints a test page (from the front panel) it says it’s a 970 and when I plug it into my laptop (running win98) the new hardware window comes up and says it has discovered new hardware an HP 970 printer. I’ve tried all of the obvious solutions, power cycling, resetting factory defaults, I even tried downloading 970 drivers (no longer available according to HP’s web site).
Anyone out there know how to reset the printer firmware so my 952C can be a 952c again?
Thanks,
Tomw
