HP Restore Disk usage on D:\Drive

by cglrcng9 . Updated 22 years, 8 months ago

I have an HP Pavilion XL753 w/ restore disks only, have purchased Win XP Pro full retail. I have done the correct drive prep and Partitioned the drive into Drive_C:\ 50% (primary DOS partition and made this 1 active), and Drive_D:\ 50% (extended DOS parition w/ a logical drive on this partition taking up 100% of thje partition). I wish to dual boot the XP Pro on C:\ and Win ME that is on the HP Restore disks on D:\. Normally w/ full retail copy MS CD install disks of both it is rather easy in DOS to install the ME first, then copy the XP disk to C:\ once in to the ME on D:\ side then install XP from DOS using those files and Smartdrv. But I can’t seem to target the HP Restore disks to use D:\ instead of C:\.

Any ideas anyone or any ideas what will happen if I just make D:\ the active partition and reverse the drives (the actual partitions that XP & ME will be installed on? XP on D:\ and ME on the Restore Disk Set target drive?)

Points will be increased for answers that are detailed enough to follow or that are fairly creative and possibly work.

Thank’s all…Anyone who hasn’t tried a dual boot w/ XP should. Especially if a gamer. I particularly like to set up XP/Win98SE for gaming.
