HP Sure Store Dat 24 Backup drive

We have been recently haveing problems with our Internal HP Sure Store Dat 24 drive. It is running on a NT Server 4.0 system as one of our BDC. Every now and then the tape will not perform a backup. Example, it will back up one night and then thenext day when you put a new tape in it kicks it out right away. If I stop the ALL the backup services and erase the tape it will work for one or two more backups and then does the same thing again. Now these are ALL brand new tapes. Anyone had this problem or know of what it could be??

I am wondering if it could be firm ware? Becuase it does backup SOMETIMES???
