HP8100 to Computer Connection w/CAT5 Crossover Cable Limited Connectivity

I connected an HP Laserjet8100 with an RJ45 ethernet connection directly to my computer’s RJ45 ethernet port. I still cannot print any documents due to a Local area Connection message: ‘Limited or no Connectivity’. When I try to get the connecticn to repair itself the message, “Windows unable to Renew IP Address…”, does anyone know what I need to do to correct this?
