We have a HP color printer that has worked great for two years but now it seems it has a network mind of its own.
Last week it stopped working no one could get a print job to work; I unplugged the printer and reset it. I moved the network cable to a new port; I set the printer to manual IP. All of our printers are set up by MAC address and a static IP.
That did not work; I called our network team which told me the switched to our second vlan on another port. They put it back to where it should be on the first vlan and the printer worked great for a week.
Now the printer is doing the same thing and after tiring every thing we did before it is not pulling an IP address.
I tried four different ports, two known good network cables, reset to factory defaults, set the printer to auto DHCP which also sets the IP to auto.
The network team removed the printer from the AD and added it back with a new IP, and that did not work. I have tried every thing from resetting to defaults to manualy entering the settings. I left the printer powered off for a day.
It was suggested that I replace the Jet direct card but that is embedded on this type of printer. I called HP and this printer is out of warranty and help for it would cost upwards of $39 an hour.
I checked about repairing the printer and was told it could cost any where from $200 to $1000.
So how do you check an embedded jet direct card?
