hundreds of weird “invisible” textboxes in Excel

Well, it took me almost half a day to dig into this giant Excel spreadsheet, and find the reason of exponential growing. In one of the sheets and one of the columns, I discovered (almost accidentaly) hundreds of embedded text boxes with no text and no visible margins …

anyone experienced this before ?

I thought we are well protected, nor did I hear of a virus that would act like this …
