I/O Error failed to ArcRead the boot par

Help, I need to recover data off a hard drive, but when I try to boot it I am prompted with an “I/O Error failed to Arcread the boot partition.” The hard drive is a WD 10 GB. Is there a way to get this onto another windows 2000 professional machine without corrupting the other hard disk? I just want to save some critical data and toss the drive. Any help would be gratly appreciated.
