.ics, iwebcal, and Joomla

I am looking to create a public events calendar for our school district. Internally, we are using Desknow Collaboration server for calendar and email.

I want to be able to mark public events, publish them to our Joomla site using the IWebCal component. All seems to work fine, except I also want to have a “Latest events” or “Upcoming events” module to be displayed using data from the desknow that is marked as public.

Anyone have suggestions on how to make this last part work in Joomla?
