IDE interface compatibility

by nosliw247 . Updated 23 years, 2 months ago

I recently purchase a Lite-On DVD-ROM, however it did not come witha a factory packaged interface. I tried to get one (supposedly IDE 66 – grey type)from my supplier but they are out of stock ; so they suggested that I use the IDE 100 (yellow type – HDD interface).
In any case – upon connecting it to my dvd drive – after the first powerup everything’s fine- then after a few minutes my system gets unstable – mouse doesn’t work, system freezes and then i start to here a loud spinup type of sound coming from the drive. I’m almost certain that the IDE cable is causing the problem… what do you think guys? and can you recommend the most suitable IDE cable for use? Thank you..
