IE and accessing search engines

by luv2bike2 . Updated 23 years ago

I have one system with Windows 2000 with all the security updates (done this morning), IE 6 SP 1, virus scanned the system and I still have this one problem.

When IE search feature is used (or Yahoo, MSN search, or try to go to Google.com or Hotbot.com, any search engine) we get either:
404 Not Found — The requested URL/spresults.aspx was not found on this server.
Additionally, a 404 not found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

or

(this message is what we got when I tried to go to google.com and hotbot.com)
Error: The website you are looking for does not appear to be located on this server.
It is our understanding that your computer may require one of the new security patches from Microsoft.com. Please download it from teh following address: Http://www.windowsupdate.com

AFter you ahve updated your windows security at Microsoft’s Windows Update (the link above) the address you have typed in should take you to where you expected to go.
Thank you.

I have reinstalled IE6 applied the patches again and still have no luck. I have also checked MS knowledge base and pulled up article 827326 — “sorry your system is not working……..” and followed those instructions and still no luck.

Anyone out there have a clue as what could be the reason my user can not access or use a search engine. (the user can go to other web sites — cnn, msn, yahoo, state web page, any web page that he has in his favorites, or just typing them in the address field BUT search engines).

Thank you,

Robin
