ILLEGAL ACTION BY NETSCAPE

Whenever I press a toolbar button of the Netscape4.6, the Win98 flashes a message that Netscape has done an illegal action and the system hangs up. Otherwise, the browser does well to connect to any given URL address. Uninstalling and reinstalling the software has done no good. IE runs good on the system. Has it anything to do with the accidental removal of some plug in ?
