IM Over WAN

Has somebody tried Microsoft Instant Messenging over WAN ? Can somebody help because I tried it on 1 server and then on 2 different servers on the same site and it’s working fine, but not over WAN … ( I’m using Win 2000 Adv. Srv. SP2, VSAT and onedomain ) … Thanks in advance …
